Biography

A versatile trumpeter and arranger, RASHAWN ROSS is born on the island of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Upon graduation from high school in 1996, Rashawn attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, graduating in 2000.

Rashawn started his professional career with Afro-Cuban hip hop band Yerba Buena. He then joined funk pioneers Lettuce and Soulive shortly thereafter.

In 2006, Rashawn joined Dave Matthews Band. Almost two decades into this journey, on October 19th, 2024, Rashawn Ross was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Dave Matthews Band. Rashawn is one of only EIGHT trumpeters to receive this distinguished honor. In 2025, Dave Matthews Band was ranked in the top five (#4) most popular artists of the Millennium based on ticket sales. Dave Matthews Band is also the only band in history to have SEVEN consecutive albums debut at #1 on the Billboard charts.

Outside of Dave Matthews Band, Rashawn has compiled a lengthy resume as a freelance trumpeter and horn arranger. Rashawn’s trumpet and horn arranging were featured on Ariana Grande’s 2025 number-one charting album, “eternal sunshine deluxe: brighter days ahead,” on the song, “dandelion.” He has also worked with Lady Gaga in her big band for her Las Vegas “Jazz and Piano” residency as well as her 2024 album, “Harlequin.”

Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Usher, Demi Lovato, Tori Kelly, Babyface, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams, John Mayer, Josh Groban, Willie Nelson, and The Allman Brothers are just a few more artists with whom Rashawn has been fortunate to perform and record.

Rashawn is a Bach Brass performing artist and clinician, a Trumcor Mutes performing artist and has a signature line of mouthpieces made by Greg Black Mouthpieces.
